Mentorship Member Spotlight: Amy Stevens, Founder of The Rovy Group
We had the pleasure of interviewing Amy Stevens for our Mentorship Member Spotlight. She’s the founder and owner of The Rovy Group, a consulting firm that helps small nonprofits and businesses that need strategic support but might not have the in-house capacity to get there on their own.
Tell us about your business! What inspired you to become a nonprofit consultant, and what’s the focus of your work.
Amy: After more than 20 years in a corporate role, most recently as the Head of Strategy & Structure, and a decade in volunteer roles with various nonprofits, I made the intentional choice to step away from the familiar and channel my expertise into the nonprofit and small business sector where I see an opportunity to make a meaningful difference. I am deeply passionate about empowering individuals and organizations to unlock their full potential, believing that nonprofits and small businesses offer a unique chance to create a transformative and lasting impact. I focus not only on solving immediate challenges but also on creating pathways for sustainable growth.
What’s a recent project you’re proud of? How did you help the nonprofit organization achieve its goals?
Amy: I’m currently working on two projects that I’m really proud to be a part of. One organization is expanding rapidly and needs a solid strategy to support their growth. The other is broadening its reach and looking to diversify revenue to sustain its mission.
What advice would you give to new consultants just starting out?
Amy: Be patient with yourself. Stay positive, and lean into your support network. And don’t forget to step away and reset when you need to—it makes a big difference.
How has being part of the Relatable Nonprofit Mentorship Community helped you grow your business?
Amy: RNP has been instrumental in helping me grow The Rovy Group. They've provided so many resources that set my consulting business up for success. I knew what I wanted to do, but I didn’t know where to start. Beyond the resources, the members have been invaluable—the support, collaborations, and even the commiserations (haha) have been an unexpected but incredible bonus.
What’s next for you? Any exciting projects or goals you’re working toward?
Amy: Right now, I’m focused on growing The Rovy Group. I’m also working on refining my services to better support small nonprofits and businesses that need strategic guidance but may not have the internal capacity. It’s been exciting, challenging, and really rewarding—and I’m just getting started.
