Your Nonprofit Skills Aren’t the Problem

You know how to solve real problems.

You know how to serve organizations well.

You know how to do meaningful work.

But consulting asks you to build a business around that expertise.

That means learning how to explain what you do, decide what to charge, find people who need your help, talk about working together, write clear proposals, manage client expectations, and protect your time.

Most nonprofit jobs never taught you that part.

So if consulting feels confusing, it doesn’t mean you’re unqualified. It usually means you need more structure around the business you’re building.

You don’t need to keep figuring that out alone.

Where Are You in Your Consulting Journey?

The Mentorship helps you figure out what to build next based on where you are right now.

Getting Ready to Start or Newly Launched

You’re ready to consult or recently started, but clients aren’t coming in yet. You need to know what to offer, who to help, what to charge, and how to start finding paying clients.

Getting Clients, But Not Consistently

You’ve gotten a client or two, but the business still feels unpredictable. You need clearer services, better pricing, stronger proposals, and a better way to find and talk to potential clients.

Booked But Overwhelmed

You have clients and money coming in, but the business feels messy or too dependent on you. You need simpler services, stronger boundaries, better client systems, and a way to grow without burning out.

Piecing It Together Is More Expensive Than It Looks

Piecing it together can feel responsible at first.

You use the free resources. You take the networking calls. You work on your website. You post on LinkedIn. You borrow a pricing formula. You tweak a proposal template. You keep trying to find the missing piece that will finally make consulting feel clear.

And some of those pieces may help.

But they only work when there’s a strong foundation underneath them.

If you don’t know what you sell, who it’s for, what it’s worth, or how to talk about it, every piece has to work too hard.

That looks different depending on where you are.

If you’re newly launched, it may look like rewriting your website for the fifth time, posting on LinkedIn and getting polite likes but no clients, or taking networking calls where people say “this is so needed” and still don’t send referrals.

If you have a client or two, it may look like charging less than you know you should, saying yes to work that doesn’t quite fit, or rewriting every proposal from scratch because each opportunity feels completely different.

If you’re booked but overwhelmed, it may look like having money coming in but no breathing room, letting client requests bleed into nights and weekends, or realizing you’re too busy delivering the work to fix the way the business runs.

Free advice may not cost money upfront, but piecing it together still has a cost: months of confusion, undercharging, delayed decisions, missed opportunities, and energy you don’t get back.

The goal isn’t to collect more random pieces. The goal is to build the foundation that makes the pieces work together.

What We Help You Build

Inside the Mentorship, you’ll work through the five foundations of a consulting business that can actually support you.

Clarify what you offer, who you help, what you charge, and what kind of business you’re building.

Make your message, website, LinkedIn, and online presence easier for the right people to understand.

Learn how to find potential clients, talk about working together, follow up, and write clearer proposals.

Set expectations, manage scope, communicate clearly, protect your time, and create a better client experience.

Simplify what’s working, improve your systems, raise your prices when it makes sense, and build more sustainably.

Why Relatable Nonprofit Exists

Hi, we’re Cat and Julia. In 2021, we left senior nonprofit leadership roles to consult.

We had deep sector experience, but we quickly realized there was no nonprofit-specific roadmap we could trust.

We knew how to do the work.

We had to learn how to package our skills, price sustainably, find clients, sell our services, manage scope, set boundaries, and build systems the hard way.

Once we built the right foundation and executed consistently, everything changed. We grew our consulting firm to $300,000 in annual revenue and created a business that felt stable, structured, and sustainable.

That experience became Relatable Nonprofit.

Now, after coaching 100+ nonprofit professionals and consultants, we help others build consulting businesses with more clarity, structure, and support.

Who the Mentorship Is Designed For

Yes, this is for you if…

✔ You’re a nonprofit professional who wants to turn your expertise into consulting income.

✔ You’re getting ready to start and want a clear path before guessing your way through it.

✔ You’ve launched but need clearer services, better pricing, and more consistent clients.

✔ You’re booked but overwhelmed and need stronger boundaries, better systems, and more structure.

✔ You want coaching, accountability, and practical feedback that helps you follow through.

It may not be the best fit if…

✘ You want clients or referrals handed to you.

✘ You want a shortcut instead of doing the work consistently.

✘ You’re not willing to talk to potential clients about working together.

✘ You want to consume content quietly without participating.
